Crushed Oyster Shell provides additional calcium to increase egg shell strength for layers. Oyster Shell is not a substitute for Grit. Calcium provided by the Oyster Shell is absorbed by chickens to build strong egg shells whereas Grit stays in the gizzard to contribute to digesting whole grains and Oyster Shell. Our balanced Layer Feed formulas contain the ideal amount of calcium for most birds, however, factors such as weather and environment are uncontrollable and may affect how well your birds process and store nutrients like calcium. Supplementing with Oyster Shell is the best way to add extra calcium to their diets to remedy issues such as soft shells or lowered egg production.
